How to get discovered on Instagram

Instagram is more than just a social networking app. Creators and business owners alike are now making it a full time job to influence and market their products. However, the biggest issue with this is actually getting their content seen. With our CEO reaching millions of users per month, we asked her for some of the best discoverability tips.

Here’s what she had to recommend to us.

Get discovered on Instagram with these 3 discoverability tips for Instagram search.

1. Write Descriptive Captions With Keywords

Until recently you could only search in Instagram Explore via hashtags, location tags, usernames, and profile names but now you can search using keywords. Users should be sure to write very descriptive captions as if they were writing for google search. What kind of keywords would you think users are searching for to help them find your post?

Pro tip: Try adding keywords to the bottom of the caption like you would a set of hashtags. I would use 3-5 so you don’t spam your caption.

2. Add Descriptive Alt Text to Your Instagram Posts

Instagram alt text is a feature that allows you to write custom alternative text for a richer description of your photos. You can manually input alt text when you create a post, adding valuable extra detail and keywords about your post.

Pro tip: To add alt text to a post, tap Advanced Settings at the bottom of the screen before posting.

3. Be Consistent With Your Niche

A major (yet simple) visibility tactic is to be consistent with your Instagram SEO practices. This type of consistency teaches both Facebook and Instagram who you are and what you offer — which means your profile and content will be served to relevant users as they browse and search within the app.

Pro tip: Plan out your content pillars so that you are consistently posting around the same topics everytime.
