4 Key Elements to get Your Instagram Profile Recommended

Remember last year when everyone complained about recommendations on instagram? Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they’re back.

Instagram recently outlined its three key areas of focus for 2023.

Those are:

  • Inspire people to be creative

  • Help people discover things they love

  • Spark connections between people

From a marketing perspective, a key consideration here is enhanced discovery. Meaning: show people more content from people and pages that they don’t follow.

The good news here? Your profile could start reaching a LOT more eyes now that recommendations are back.

This has become a key shift in approach for IG.

4 Key Elements to Get Your Instagram Profile Featured

Before we dive in, we’d be doing you a disservice if we didn’t tell you about our Instagram Strategy Training. We’ll walk you through a 6 point IG profile checklist as well as content pillars, engagement and hashtags. Grab it HERE.

1. Develop a style that remains consistent throughout your posts based on colors used, settings, stickers, emoji etc. Establish what you want your brand look on Instagram to be, which will then help you build a more unique and definitive brand presence in the app.

2. Another big focus is short-form video via Reels, and that could well be the key to maximizing your IG performance. If you can come up with great Reels content, your chances of getting more reach on IG rise exponentially. (Join our IG Growth+ membership if you struggle with Reels)

3. Captions: Lead with the most important information and use a consistent and personal tone

Essentially, captions that are concise, to the point, and encourage action will help your post perform better. Did you know our IG Growth+ membership has 100 swipe and steal captions?

4. Hashtags may not be as critical as they once were in the app, especially as Instagram continues to improve its AI-based recommendations, based on what you watch and engage with. But they do still play a significant role in discovery, and highlighting relevant content to users. You should be utilizing hashtags (up to 30) in every post.

Some other key posting notes to keep in mind:

  • Instagram tries to recommend content which is similar to the accounts that people have chosen to follow, so it may be worth conducting more research into what other brands in your industry are posting.

  • ‘Freshness’ is important within Instagram’s algorithmic approach, which means that you need to be posting regularly to ensure that you’re maximizing your opportunities, posting at least a few times a week.

One last note here, getting recommended on Instagram means nothing if your profile isn’t 100% optimized.
